It is also important to find sleep professionals and a sleep center in which you feel comfortable.
Tampa Sleep Apnea Specialists
Your personal physician may recommend that you make an appointment with a sleep physician if you are having trouble sleeping. After a diagnostic exam, the sleep physician will probably recommend that you participate in an overnight sleep study at a local sleep center.
There are many sleep centers in the Tampa area, including in the Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg areas. All of these centers are staffed with experienced sleep physicians and have bedroom facilities in which you can sleep overnight while being monitored by a sleep technologist.
The differences between the centers are the types of services offered. Some centers offer basic sleep facilities in a clinical atmosphere while others offer more luxurious bedroom facilities and a broad range of educational and support opportunities for their patients.
In the city of Tampa, there are over ten sleep centers staffed and equipped to help the sleep apnea patient select the best CPAP machine for their needs or an alternative sleep apnea treatment. Here is information on a few of the larger centers:
Florida Sleep Disorder Center
This Tampa sleep center has two Centers with one located in the Hyde Park area of South Tampa. The Centers are staffed by a team of physicians and technicians who have many years of experience working with local physicians and patients in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders.
The physicians are Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Sleep Medicine, Critical Care and Pulmonology. Having this wide range of specialties allows the professionals to treat the sleeping disorder and respond to a wide range of health issues that are often associated with sleep disorders including difficulty breathing, fatigue, snoring and restless sleep.
New patients are asked to complete a questionnaire with questions about their general health and their specific sleeping problems. After meeting with a physician at the Center, each patient is given an overnight sleep study to compile additional data for the initial diagnosis.
The Center is set up with private bedrooms for sleep studies. Each bedroom is furnished for the comfort of the patient with a television, ceiling fan, lamps and reading material.
If sleep apnea is diagnosed during the sleep study, the patient will have a second overnight sleep study during which a technician will try alternative pressures to determine the best pressure to stop the patient's apneas. The technician will also work with the patient to make sure that the patient has the proper CPAP machine and CPAP mask.

- 2111 West Swann Avenue, Suite 101

Selecting the Best Center for Your Needs
The first step for in solving a sleep apnea problem is an accurate diagnosis and customized treatment. The patient's physician may specifically recommend a Tampa sleep apnea sleep center or they may provide the patient with a list of alternative locations. A call to the sleep center, or a quick check of the Center's Internet site, will give the patient detailed information about their facilities, patient support and educational opportunities.
The center should be geographically convenient and have the level of services required by the patient. A patient can always ask their doctor for recommendations for sleep centers outside of Tampa in the greater Tampa Bay Area.
